“We believe and are sure that thou art the Christ,
the Son of the living God.” John 6:68
Jesus had been teaching His followers when some of them went back
and walked no more with Him because they weren’t willing go all the
way. They were overcome by temptation in heeding the thought that it
was too hard to follow Christ. Jesus must have felt sadness and
grief as He turned to the twelve disciples and asked, “Will ye also
go away?”
Peter responded by saying, “Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the
words of eternal life. We believe and are sure that thou art the
Christ, the Son of the living God.”
What a wonderful expression of belief and trust in the divinity and
inerrancy of Christ by Peter. Today, there are many that are walking
away from Christ in that they turn from the truth of God’s word.
They have fallen prey to the enemy in believing a lie - that another
way is better. Where do these people go? Many turn to a form of
religion and fleshly worship that ministers to the flesh instead of
the soul. Many go back to the sinfulness of the world and flesh.
Those who walk away will never find that peace and rest that is
found in following Jesus Christ.
While the world, friends, family, and yes, even sometimes
‘churchgoers‘ may contest it, may our belief and resolve remain
fixed in Jesus Christ. For where else can we turn in time of
trouble? Where else can we find grace and power to help us through
the day? Where else can we find the words of life that minister to
the spirit and soul?
We acknowledge that the way of Christ is a way of sacrifice and self
denial, but it is the way that leads to life. In Christ and in His
way, the weary will find rest, the guilty will find forgiveness, and
the weak will find strength.
Lord, we believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of the living
God. Our faith will be unshaken in a time of unbelief and
questioning spirits. You have proven your love, mercy, and
forgiveness. You have shown us your power, grace, and presence. Yes
Lord, we still believe that thou art the Christ.
