“Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee
a crown of life.” Revelation 2:10
Although little is known about the apostle Andrew, history states
that he was martyred for his faith in Jesus Christ. After leaving
his nets to follow Jesus and the subsequent coming of the Holy
Spirit, Andrew lived a life of dedication and devotion to the
furtherance of the kingdom of God.
Andrew gave his life for the gospel. He was taken and fastened to a
cross that was in the shape of the letter X (the two ends were fixed
transversely in the ground). To prolong the suffering, he was
fastened with ropes to this cross until he died. For two days while
he had strength, Andrew preached to the people that gathered to
observe his death. People were saved due to his ministrations.
What a wonderful example of someone who was faithful unto death. Let
us not faint or be weary due to persecutions, peer pressure, or
opposition. Let us maintain our integrity and faith in God at
whatever cost that one day we too would have a crown of life.
