“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and
forever.” Hebrews 13:8
What inspirational stories we read about in the Gospels of the
wonderful works of Jesus. We read of how Jesus was a man of compassion
and love. He was quick to help people in need while never
compromising truth to get a larger following. We read incident after
incident of Jesus healing the blind, the sick and the lame. We find
him ministering to the hurting and sad. We read of how Jesus cast
out devils and gave His disciples power over the enemy. We discover
in the scripture how Jesus forgave the vilest sinner and had mercy
on those who where accused and cast down. We see Jesus, the Son of
God, as a man that befriended sinners and provided companionship to
those rejected in society. We can’t help but be touched by the Jesus
of yesterday as He walked this earth as a man and experienced our
humanity.
It is an even greater blessing when we come to the realization that
the Jesus of 2000 years ago has not changed. More than just a story,
Jesus is a reality that we can experience in our lives today.
Although He is no longer in the flesh, His spirit is ministering
with the same power and ability. We can be assured that Christ’s
love is reaching out to us. He is still a friend to sinners. His
mercy is still extended to the individual that feels judged and
misjudged by others. He is still saying “Go and sin no more.” Jesus
is still healing the sick and ministering to those that have needs.
The Jesus of yesterday is the same today.
Not only do we have the experience of a 'current Christ,’ but we
have an assurance that as He has not changed for 2000 years, He will
be the same for us tomorrow. It is in Christ that the fears of
tomorrow are taken away. In Him, we have hope. In a world and time
of changes, what a blessed consolation to rest in an unchanging
Christ.
