"Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you." 1 Pet. 5:7.

It is most encouraging to know that God really cares for us. Dear reader, He cares for you. Satan may sometimes try to discourage you with the thought that God does not care for you, but he is a liar and the father of lies. If God cared so much for the ungodly that while we were yet sinners and in rebellion against Him, He gave the only Son of His bosom to die for us, will He not care for the discouraged ones whom Satan is trying to cast down? If God loves His enemies and His opposers, does He not love those whose souls pant for Him as the "hart panteth after the water brooks" ? Immediately after exhorting us to cast all our cares upon Jesus, the Apostle says: "Be sober, be vigilant because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered awhile, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you." 1 Pet. 5:8-10.

It seems that the apostle had in mind the necessity of casting all our cares upon Christ and his care for us when our "adversary the devil walketh about, seeking whom he may devour." After you have cast your care upon the Lord, firmly believing that God cares for you, you can then resist the devil steadfast in the faith, and "the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you." Satan does not care how much you resist him so long as you do not resist him "steadfast in the faith"; but when you begin to resist him thus, he must flee, for Christ will make him flee.

"But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. When thou passest through the waters I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. For I am the Lord thy God, the holy one of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee. Since thou west precious in my sight, thou hast been honorable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life. Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east and gather thee from the west; I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth; even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him." Isa. 43:1-7.

"Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that cloth go with thee; he will not fail thee nor forsake thee. And the Lord, he it is that cloth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed." Deut. 31:7, 8.

"The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with loving kindness have I drawn thee." Jer. 31:3.
