“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

Jesus Christ was born and lived to die on a cross for ‘us’ that we might be saved from sin and experience the blessings of God in a fuller measure in this life. Jesus is not just some far off entity, but He is a personal saviour and friend. He was the personal gift that God gave to you and me, even when we were unworthy of His love and sacrifice. He came for our benefit.

The fulfillment of the prophecy in Isaiah didn’t stop when Jesus died. The government is still upon the shoulders of Christ. When there are questions and problems, when religious people aren’t getting along, when there are issues between ministers and in congregations, when you look at the division among professing Christians, remember that the government doesn’t lie on your shoulders. What a blessing when we realize that there are matters too great for us, and we can rest in knowing that Christ is in control of this government as we submit ourselves unto his governance.

His name shall be called wonderful. Jesus excites wonder and amazement. He is marvelous and exalted. His love, His redemption, His mercy, His compassion, His judgments, and His divine plan are all WONDERFUL. It is inspiring to read about, but even more wonderful to experience the gift of Christ.

As counselor, His wisdom and knowledge far surpass our finite human thinking and reasoning. He is worthy to advise and lead us along the journey of life. He is ever there to instruct us in the paths of righteousness. We can not err if we listen and yield to the way of Christ.

As mighty God, Christ is divine, born of a virgin. As a child and man, He understands our humanity. But through His divinity, He enables us to rise above the power of the flesh. He is mighty in power and strength. For this cause, Satan has lost His power and authority in our lives. As we acknowledge our weakness before Christ, His power and grace will reign in us that we too can be more than conquerors.

Christ is the everlasting Father. His kingdom is without end and His goodness and power will endure perpetually. The reign of Christ was not limited to three and a half years, nor will it be limited to 1000 years as some teach. He is reigning now and will continue to reign forever and ever. He is the father of grace, strength, enablement, power and of eternity. As we open our hearts to this Christ, we too shall reign with Him for evermore.

He is the keeper, the governor, the general, the Lord and master of true peace. He came to restore and perpetuate peace in our hearts and lives. This peace is a rest and happiness that supersedes all that the world has to offer. Peace will never be found without seeking and opening our heart to the Prince and giver of Peace. In Him, we have soul rest.

Christ desires for these things to be a reality in your life. It was for this cause that He was born into the world. It was for you…
