“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins."  Matthew 1:21

What a wonderful gift that mankind received from God with the birth of Jesus. In context, an angel spoke to Joseph and let him know that Mary was going to bear a son that was immaculately conceived by the Holy Spirit. This child's name was to be called 'Jesus,' for he was going to save his people from their sins. In the Hebrew, the word 'Jesus' means 'savior.'

The world was steeped in sin and even those under the Mosaic Law did not have the power nor the ability to live a life free from sin. Jesus came to this world as a savior. Through the shed blood of Jesus and the transformation that occurs in our life when we repent and accept the Savior's gift of salvation, we too can walk in newness of life free from sin.

Through the power of the Savior, the strongholds of Satan are broken in people's lives. "I beheld Satan as lightening fall from heaven." Jesus came to save us from our sin. When Jesus truly comes in to the heart of a repentant believer, the binding chains of sin are broken. We too can then go and "sin no more" - for we have met the savior.

In a world were sin is abounding, we can take courage with the message of hope still today. The Savior was born, died, and rose again that "where sin abounded, grace did much more abound" (Rom 5:20).

So many today believe that people can not live without sinning. Jesus came not only to be a friend and to save us from eternal damnation. He came to remove the guilt, condemnation and very power of sin in our lives.

Who shall deliver us from the power of sin? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
