"In
everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus
concerning you."
I Thess
5:18
Often,
people struggle to know what the will of God is concerning their
lives. Too many times people are waiting for a grand revelation of a
great work to do for God. While God does have an individual call for
each of us, we must be faithful to fulfill the general will of God
for us all. "This is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning
you." This phrase emphasizes the importance of the instruction that
was given. What is the will of God? That in EVERY thing we give
thanks.
God not
only 'requests' this of His children but requires it of His people
if they are going to live pleasing to Him. While there are difficult
times, trials, afflictions, and adverse circumstances, God's will is
that we give Him thanks for it all. The giving of thanks is not just
that which proceeds out of our mouth, but it is an attitude of heart
and condition of spirit. Thanksgiving is not just a personality
issue, it is a spiritual issue as it is the will of God.
When we
can avail ourselves of the grace to give God thanks for everything
that touches our lives, we are not only doing the will of God, but
we find the path of victory and peace in the battles of life.
