"What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod."
Exodus 4:2
Moses was wavering when God commanded him to lead the Israelites out
of Egypt. He was keenly aware of his own lacks. Then God asked him,
"Moses, what is that in thine hand?" God went on to show Moses what
miracles he could perform with that simple rod.
Other examples of Biblical service in small things are the young lad
whose lunch fed 5,000, and the widow whose selflessness to feed the
prophet her last cake of meal resulted in miraculous provision for
them all throughout the duration of the famine.
What is in your hand today? Offer it to God and let him use the
things you view to be insignificant. Is it a pen? Send a note of
encouragement to someone you've been praying for. Is it a telephone?
Make a call and let someone know they are appreciated. Begin to look
at the things you have at your disposal in light of how you may
allow the Lord to use them.
As the scripture says, "Despise not the day of small things." Ask
the Lord to lead you in service to him. What is in thine hand? Use
it today for God.
