evening service the prayer of Faith and the Lord have put away
the problems, Praise God. Since that time I recover back to my
full strength, Praise the Lord. Now I eat all, sleep in the
night very well and walk around and help so far I can my wife.
Thank God.
Your Brother in Christ Alen Laukert
December 28: Email from Germany.
We are
back at our lovely home again. How good is the Lord to us
people. We are not worthy of His love and mercy unto us. I'm so
thankful to God that He has carried us through this time of
trouble. Now I'm look back to this time which were very heavy
for us. Now I see that He, my God, my Saviour, my Helper, my
Comforter, had carried us on his hands. Really the ways of God
are the best ways. I can not find words to praise Him for what
He had done for us.
I'm very, very thankful for all the love, for prayers, for email
and for calls which we have gotten from our dear brothers and
sisters. I love you all. We want to pray that the Lord want to
finish His work and give my dear husband the full health.
Your sister in Christ,
Elina.
December 27: Bro. Alen and Sis. Elina were able to return to
their home today. They send their greetings and love to all the
saints who have helped to carry their burden. They have been
told that the Malaria is still present in Bro. Alen's body and
could recur in a matter of weeks. We have witnessed firsthand
that God can break the cycle of Malaria completely. Let us pray
that the Lord would do this in Bro. Alen's case and that the
Lord would bless the Laukert family as he recovers.
December 25:
I was
able to speak with Sis. Elina again today. She was praising God
for what He has done and is doing for Bro. Alen. The Lord has
brought him back from death's door. His mind is clear. He is
eating normally and he is regaining strength. He has been up
walking around some and even gone outside for a little bit. She
said that now Bro. Alen is suffering from another
sickness--homesickness. He has been requesting his release. The
doctors have said that they may release him next Wednesday if
all goes well until then. Sis. Elina especially requested
that I relay their gratitude to all of the saints for their
help, support and prayers during this time of trial. --Sis.

Below is an email from Bro.Wilhelm Laukert,
Bro.Alen's father, to the saints.
Dear
Brothers and Sisters in the Lord,
I feel directed by the Holy Spirit to say thanks to you and to
our Saviour who supported us in our battle. My son Alen Laukert
was afflicted by a tropical malaria in its worst manifestations,
and we all knew what was awaiting us. But to God be the glory
for giving us victory over sin, hell and death. Hallelujah!
Brother Alen was courageous and faithful until death. [Bro. Alen
didn't die but was close to death before getting better.] We thank
the Lord for the evening light and for the faith which was given
to the saints (Jude 3). Through this battle God has spoken to
many souls and to my soul as well. He showed me the unique body
of Christ (1. Corinthians 12: 12-27). Praise God that he added
us through the blood of Jesus to his body. We thank God that he
united his children so that they melt together in his love. We
thank God also for the inner tabernacle of grace where his
children can rest safely, even throughout the greatest
afflictions. We thank you so much for your prayers and
encouraging supports. If one member suffers, the other members
will suffer, too. Continue to pray for us, so that we keep
faithful until the end.
Your Brother in Christ,
Wilhelm Laukert
December 23: Below is an email that we received today from
Bro. Arthur Herter updating us on Bro. Alen's condition.
"We
are not in direct contact with Sister Elina and don't have the
phone number of the house where she is now. But today, at noon,
I called Bro. Alen's father - Bro. Wilhelm, just before he went
to the hospital to see Bro. Alen, and he told me some news.
Slowly but constantly Bro. Alen is getting better. The doctors
did not make a blood transfusion. He is eating by himself, is
able to stand up and walk a little. He feels very weak and is
not talking much. He does not like to be at the hospital and
asked the doctor for permission to go home. We were very glad to
hear that his mind is clear and that he is able to have
communion with God. Praise the Lord!
Brother Alen, his wife and family are still in need of support
in prayer. Sister Elina received very many e-Mails but is not
able to answer them now."
-Bro.
Arthur Herter
December 21: We have been out of touch with Sis. Elina for a
few days as she is gone from home. We received an email from
Bro. Harlan Sorrell with the following update given by Bro.
Arthur Herter:
"Bro.
Alen is a little better but still in a critical condition, they
released him out of the intensive care unit. He try to sit up
and to eat himself."
December 19: Note: We received word from Sis. Elina this
morning. I had asked her for her mailing address so that those
who have a desire to may send a card or note of encouragement.
Postage for a 1 oz. international letter is 84 cents. Below are
excerpts from Sis. Elina's email. -Sis. René Smith
We are
here very well. And I hope you there too. The Lord have trust my
soul in a special way. I thank him for this. I lay all things in
his arms...I'm here now with my mother in Hamburg where Alen is.
Here are some saints which we know and one young man have given
us his room where we can live. So I'm thankful for this to the
Lord, that He care that we don't must drive so far and long. We
will be here as long as Alen is here. They don't have here
Internet, so I can't write every day you. But I will try to
write every second day...
We
were at the Hospital with him yesterday. The doctors say that he
is very good for his situation and he is doing well for his
sickness. He can speak very slowly, but he cannot laugh, cry or
smile. He is so passive...He said yesterday that he is very
tired, he don't want to live more. So pray very very special for
him that the Lord help him in all what he need.
Pray for me too, and special for Alen.
Your sister in Lord - Elina.

December 18: We have not heard from Sis. Elina today. She is
not home right now so we are assuming that she is out of touch
due to her being with Bro. Alen.
December 17: Sis. Elina is traveling back and forth every
day to visit Bro. Alen. This is six hours round trip. Bro. Alen
is aware of what is going on but is unable to communicate. It
sounded like things were relatively unchanged from yesterday. He
is sleeping much of the time and there is some confusion in his
mind.
December 16:
2:00 p.m. When Sis. Elina went to see Bro. Alen today,
the doctors said that it is a 'wonder' that he is in the
present condition given the circumstances. He was not expected
to come out of the coma. Bro. Alen was unable to speak to his
wife, although he was aware that she was there.
Sis.
Elina sends her greetings to all of the saints.
3:00a.m. We were awakened this morning with a call of
good news from Sis. Elina. Contrary to what the doctors
predicted, Bro. Alen has come out of the coma and is breathing
on his own without the help of a respirator. His color has
improved a little. While unable to speak much, he was able to
slowly communicate to his wife the following message: "Tell
everyone: Don't
stop praying for me." He told the doctors that he wanted to go
home, but they intend to keep him there for now.
We
give God praise for hearing and answering prayer in Bro. Alen's
behalf. Let us hold on in prayer that God will bring him out of
this illness without any residual effects.
December 15: It is with a heavy heart that I update the
website this morning. Our brother
is in a coma and has the severest form of malaria. Words
fail to express the burden and depth of feeling of our spirit.
All of our trust must continue to be not only in the healing
power but also in the wisdom of our Lord. Let us not give up in
our prayers and petition to God in behalf of Bro. Alen. Pray for
Sis. Elina and her children that God would give sustaining grace
and strength in this very difficult time. Sis. Elina expressed
on the phone that the Lord is helping her.
With
Sis. Elina's permission, I am posting the email that we received
from her this morning.
Email:
Dear
Bro. and Sis. Smith,
Alen has need yet a little time to go to this place which he
want be always. To be there with the Lord for ever. God loves
him more than I. The day before yesterday he could understand me
a little bit, eat and drink. Than in the night he became a big
and aloud hiccup and this take all the night. It takes the all
power which he have the day before from him. Than he could't
administer me and his eyes were all time open and he looked to
one place. He couldn't affect his eyes more. In the morning he
was yet yellow and almost donnish. And all the time was the eyes
open. Until the evening he would don't make it. He is abide true
to the Lord until his end. He is fight a good believe-fight.
The oldest brother from Alen (he live from us 600km) call the
ambulance vehicle. So they came and call the emergency physician
and he take them with him. They say they must it do they can't
not to leave him to die, that is they work. In the hospital he
find out that he have a highest grade of Malaria. Than they
rushed him to a special university hospital. There he put on
artificial respiration and add him in a artificial coma because
his breathe was slower. He would don't go to the doctor until
his end. He trust the Lord that he make the best for him and us.
The doctors don't know how long he will stay in this situation.
"If it needed be we would to attempt too (as Jesus), still if we
fight true, as a gold approved; than we praised him, on which
arm we had trust, and which he well to complete. If we abide
here at the saviors will, take he us home, if we were true until
the end, therefore we have not fear the devils seduction, then
the Lord is with us until the end. Blessed is the man who has
agonize the seduction, when he is approved, he will have the
life crest; sing then once in heaven this song of the redeemers
and will ever abide at the Savior." D. S. Warner.
Console me Lord and care for us.
Your sister in the Lord which want to be so abide like my dear
husband
Elina.
December 14:
9:30 a.m. Bro. Alen was transported to the hospital and
examined where it was determined that he is suffering from
Tropical Malaria. He was then taken to a clinic about three
hours away. Sis. Elina and his parents are making plans to
travel there this afternoon to be with him. Sis. Elina needs
sleep and has been unable to rest much for a number of days.
3:15 a.m. We received a call for urgent prayer for Bro. Alen.
He is critically low this morning. He is not responsive and is
very jaundiced. Bro. Alen and Sis. Elina's trust has been and
continues to be in the Lord. Things were taken out of their
hands when someone called an ambulance and Bro. Alen was taken
to the hospital. We have assured Sis. Elina of the love and
understanding of the saints. Some sisters in the congregation in
Germany are with her at this time. Let us pray unceasingly that
God will divinely intervene in the natural course of this
illness.
Note: From the onset of this illness, my wife and I have
carried a heavy burden and have been willing to go be with them
in Germany during this battle. I know that others have had a
common burden. We have discussed this with the Laukerts at
various junctures in this illness. At this time, Sis. Elina does
not feel it is necessary for someone from the U.S. to come. They
have adequate support and are resting in God and in the prayers
of the saints. While many here in the United States are carrying
a burden for them, please know that there are saints in Germany
who are also helping bear the burden. --Bro. Michael
December 13: Bro. Alen's fever was down but he was
unable to sleep through the night. Thankfully, he was able to
drink a little and eat a few bites of food. He was able to
communicate with Sis. Elina today. We thank God for every
reprieve and blessing. Sis. Elina testified that God had blessed
her today with more courage and hope. -mws
December 12: Bro. Alen's fever was not as hot through the
night and is down this morning. However, though he wants sleep,
he cannot. This morning Sis. Elina said he still is unable to
sleep, he is not eating or drinking, and is very weak and
confused. When he tries to communicate, Sis. Elina cannot
understand him and that is very difficult for her. Please
continue to remember Alen's father also. As the primary
caregivers, he and Sis. Elina are there to witness Bro. Alen's
condition more than others around and they need special grace
and comfort. Bro. Alen's father comes in after work in the
evenings to help out. Pray for him today at work that the Lord
will give him special grace and peace and also for Sis. Elina
that the Lord will give her strength for her day. We continue to
petition the Lord for the healing of our brother.
-Sis. René Smith
December 11: Bro. Alen is getting a little more sleep,
mostly during the day time. His fever continues to cycle. Sis.
Elina especially wanted to extend her love to all the saints
this morning. God has blessed her with peace and joy in the
battle. -mws
December 10: Sis Elina told my wife on the phone this
morning that Bro. Alen's fever was very hot last night. It went
down some in the afternoon. Some of the congregation in Germany
went to visit them this Sunday afternoon. Bro. Alen and Sis.
Elina are very appreciative of all the love and prayers of the
saints. As the battle is still ongoing, let us not let up now,
but let us press our case to the throne of God. The prayers of
the saints are as incense rising to the throne of God. -mws
Email from Sis. Elina:

prayer request for my father in law (Alen's father). He is

Morning Email:
Dear
Bro. and Sis.,
Excuse me that I didn't write in the last days about Alen. I had
no time and want to be with him. I'm not sure but I think today
is worse than yesterday. He could sleep a little little bit in
the night. He has eat yesterday better than the days before. But
today in the night, I go in the bathroom, he stand up after me
and try to go too. As he come at the door, he blacked out (we
say it here so) breakdown and fall to the ground. I couldn't
catch him so fast. But his body is ok. He has fever night 39.7°C
[103.46 °F] now he have 40.1°C.[104.18 °F] (it is from body to
body different, but at 41°C [105.8 °F] the man can die) He sees
very pale.
Thy will be done Lord. I trust him and I know that He will do
the best for us.
Elina.
December 8: Special Fast and Prayer Day
for Bro. Alen
Brothers and Sisters,
As many of you know, Bro. Alen Laukert from Germany made a
visit to Ghana last month. A couple of weeks after returning
home, he became very sick. He has had high fever among other
problems. Today, he doesn't have strength to stand, and the
fever which had abated some yesterday is back.
Africa is a place with many diseases. A toll has been taken
on the saints since the 1960's with the passing of various
missionaries who had a burden to share the gospel in Africa.
Bro. David Madden, Sis. Opal Wilson, Sis. Dorothy Keizer,
and Bro. Bob Sallee have lost their lives due to illnesses
contracted in Africa. God has also proven Himself faithful
in healing on more than one occasion those that have gotten
sick in Africa. We know and recognize that God is all
powerful and is still able to heal any disease.
Bro. Alen, his wife Sis. Elina, and two precious children
are in a serious battle. It would be speculation to guess
what Bro. Alen has due to the fact that many diseases and
illnesses from Africa have similar symptoms. What is
important is that we stand behind them in this battle and do
our part in seeking God.
While fasting is a personal issue, I also recognize that
there is great power in united prayer. Hence, I am sharing
this burden with the saints. I am requesting that Friday,
December 8th be a special day of prayer and fasting for Bro.
Alen and his family. If you have a like burden, please join
us in prayer.
Feel free to pass this along to others that have a similar
burden. God bless you as we tarry together in prayer for our
brother in Germany.
I will be placing updates of Bro. Alen's condition at:
www.churchofgodeveninglight.com/alen.htm
In the Lord,
Bro. Michael Smith
-------------
We
spoke with Sis. Elina this morning and received an update on
Bro. Alen's condition. He was able to sleep some through the
night but is very worn out and can't get the sleep that he
wants. He ate a little fish. He continues to have fever and is
staying in bed. Their heart and mind is to trust the Lord all
the way. However, the devil has been battling them especially
hard today. As we fast and pray, let us also ask God to renew
their courage and strength. -mws
Note:
Sis. Elina appreciates all the prayers and also the support
shown through email. Please understand if she is unable to
respond to every email she receives as her time is limited due
to caring for her husband and family.
December 7: We
received word this morning that Bro. Alen has had a relapse.
He does not have strength to stand up and he has a high
fever again. Let us hold our brother and his wife up before
God and continually send our petition to the throne of God.
--mws
Email from Sis. Elina:
Dear
Bro. and Sis.,
Hold on in prayer that the Lord's will be done. It is not
better. He can not more stand up and go in the toilet. He has
high fever but now in the morning we try make it a little bit
down. He couldn't sleep today in the night.
Thy will be done O Lord,
Elina L.
December 6: Bro. Alen called today and said that he had a much better
night and day. He was able to eat a little bit and is
feeling better. He still has a low fever and is weak in
body. We thank God for what He has done. Let us continue to
remember Bro. Alen in prayer.
December 4:
Bro. Alen Laukert, of Germany, recently made another trip to
Ghana, West Africa. He arrived back home the last part of
November. I received word from his wife, Sis. Elina, that he is very sick. He has
been sick for three days with hot fever in addition to being
cold sometimes.
We
have had past experience with sicknesses that come from
Africa. While we don't know what is causing Bro. Alen's
sickness, it is nothing to take lightly. Please carry this
burden before the Lord and share it with others who know the
value of prayer. Let us be united in prayer for the complete
healing of Bro. Alen. --Bro. Michael Smith
